Seasons
Frigiliana is located in the Costa Tropical area east of Malaga, Andalusia. The high mountains and the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea provide a very mild subtropical microclimate. Frigiliana has around 320 days of sunshine a year - in winter it is around 10 degrees warmer and in summer around 10 degrees cooler than inland.
Citrus fruits, almonds, avocados, mangoes and wine are grown here. The region produces muscatel grapes, which are used to make the local speciality 'vino terreno', also known as Frigiliana wine. It's a sweet, aromatic moor wine that many people in the town make themselves. The winter months are mild and ideal for walking and active holidays, even in January you can often find days so warm that lunch can be eaten outside and you can sunbathe without getting burnt. Herbs and flowers spice the air, almond trees blossom and oranges are harvested. Evenings indoors are cosy, with good food and a fire in the fireplace.Spring and early autumn are high season in Frigiliana. The weather is mild and stable, and not too hot. In these seasons you can combine active holidays and hiking with quiet days on the beach or by the pool with us.June-August are the hot months and longer walks are generally discouraged here. Instead, you can enjoy the garden pool, the view, the shade of the courtyard garden, the stunning beaches and the warm evenings with the song of the cicadas. The year of celebrations and traditions: https://www.turismofrigiliana.es/en/fiestas-and-traditions.html

The latter is particularly famous for the Moorish palace Alhambra, which you must book a ticket for in advance . Read more about the Alhambra and book your ticket here. I'll be happy to give you tips and suggestions for things to do and places to eat on trips to Andalusia's big cities.

ACEBUCHAL
In the mountains behind Frigiliana is the white village of Acebuchal. Many wander there through the partly cultivated land - el campo. Here you'll find one of the area's best lunch restaurants with rustic regional dishes on the menu. Acebuchal was a ghost town for many years, but an enterprising family set about restoring the white village, which today sparkles beautifully in the landscape.
NERJA
Down the coast is Frigiliana's nearest major town, Nerja. It is particularly famous for its ancient Neanderthal caves, which are well worth a visit. https://www.cuevadenerja.esIn the centre of town is the cliff Balcón de Europa, with its spectacular views. The town has some lovely beaches, as well as many good shops, restaurants, bars and nightclubs. The town's beaches have attracted charter tourists for years, but life is quieter in Nerja than in the beach towns closer to Malaga. Nerja is a 10-minute drive from Casa Doña Angela, and there are buses between Nerja and Frigiliana.
ALMUÑÉCAR
A good half hour's drive to the east is the ancient town of Almuñécar. It has a lively centre with a market, shopping streets and a beautiful castle overlooking the town's excellent beaches and botanical gardens.
